Culture Connects is the Culture Programme of Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union and is a key element of Ireland's plans to celebrate our Presidency.
This is a wide and varied programme which involves the engagement of Irish artists in Europe and beyond, as well as European artists in Ireland.
For many centuries Ireland has had strong historic cultural connections to Europe; our Presidency offers an opportunity to celebrate and build on those connections, working across national borders to further citizens' enjoyment and experience of arts and cultural heritage across Europe. Irish artists work increasingly collaboratively with their European counterparts, and we value and wish to extend this engagement within Europe.
Irish artists will present and highlight the unique quality of Irish culture through many events planned by Culture Ireland across all Member States, with a special focus on Brussels, Paris and Berlin.
Nationally, Culture Connects features major events presented by Ireland's national cultural institutions. In addition, the Arts Council has coordinated a programme of over 90 contemporary arts events and projects taking place countrywide.
Citizens in Ireland, from artists and participants to audiences and volunteers, are connecting with people and places all over Europe through each of these special initiatives.
