Presidency negotiates key support for development of Europe’s transport network

29.05.2013, 20:45 GMT

Trans-European Transport Network (TENT) negotiations reach successful conclusion

STATEMENT FROM MINISTER FOR TRANSPORT, TOURISM AND SPORT LEO VARADKAR

I am happy to report a successful conclusion to our intensive negotiations with the European Parliament on the TENT Regulation this evening.  This is a key milestone in setting the framework for the development of Europe’s transport network over the next 25 years.

The objective of TENT is to deliver a smart, sustainable, resource efficient transport network for the EU which will make Europe more competitive globally. I am also confident that we can make substantial progress on the CEF regulation, which will provide financial support over the next financial period, before the end of our Presidency.

Both these files are strongly linked to the stability, jobs and growth priority of Ireland’s Presidency.
